Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about Fin.

What is Fin.?

Fin. is a free, simple, and elegant to-do list app that lives quietly in your Mac's menu bar. It's designed for people who want a clean, no-nonsense way to manage daily tasks — without AI features, subscriptions, or account sign-ups. The name comes from the cinematic word for "the end" — every task you finish is a small "Fin."

Is Fin. really free?

Yes. Fin. is completely free, forever. No premium tiers, no feature locks, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. It's made with care for people who appreciate good craft.

Does Fin. work on Windows, iPhone, or iPad?

Not yet. Fin. is currently Mac only. Windows and iPhone versions are planned for the future.

What are the system requirements?

Fin. requires macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later. It's a native Swift app and only about 2MB in size — so it's lightweight and won't slow down your Mac.

Does Fin. sync across devices?

Yes. Fin. uses iCloud to sync your lists and tasks across all your Macs. You don't need to create an account — it uses your existing iCloud. iCloud sync is optional and can be toggled on or off in preferences.

Can I use Fin. on a work Mac that blocks cloud tools?

Yes — and Fin. is a great fit for that. iCloud sync is a single toggle in Preferences → General. Turn it off and everything stays on your Mac — no data leaves the device and there's no account to register. If your workplace doesn't allow cloud-synced productivity tools, Fin. works perfectly well as a local-only menu bar todo list.

Can I open Fin. from any app with a keyboard shortcut?

Yes. Fin. has a system-wide summon hotkey — press ⌃⌥⌘F from any app to bring it forward. You can customize the shortcut in Preferences → Shortcuts, or turn it off entirely.

Does Fin. use AI?

No. Fin. intentionally has no AI features. It does not collect your data, suggest tasks, or analyze your productivity. It's a quiet, dependable to-do list — nothing more, nothing less.

How is Fin. different from Todoist, Things, or TickTick?

Fin. is designed for simplicity. Unlike those apps, it lives entirely in your menu bar, is completely free, requires no account, uses no AI, and is only 2MB. It's an homage to the beloved Anxiety app from 2007 — rebuilt with modern macOS features, iCloud sync, and a warm, minimalist design.

Is Fin. a good alternative to Apple Reminders?

Yes. Fin. is a great alternative if you prefer a lightweight menu bar app focused on simplicity. Fin. offers quick keyboard access, multiple color-coded lists, subtasks, drag-and-drop reordering, and a minimalist interface — with no notification spam or bloat.

How do I download Fin.?

You can download Fin. for Mac directly from this page. It's free, requires no sign-up, and installs like any standard Mac app — just drag it into Applications. Fin. is currently in beta, so your feedback is welcome at [email protected].

Who made Fin.?

Fin. is made by NiKhCo, a small maker focused on quiet, well-crafted Mac apps. Reach out any time at [email protected].
